This is a topic that is EXTREMELY close to my heart. Because for a long, long time I participated in extremely unhealthy relationship patterns.
I was codependent, anxiously attached, obsessive and addicted to attention.
Since then I’ve had to take a long, hard look at my relationship to RELATIONSHIPS and make some pretty big changes. And no, I’m not just talking about my 9 month celibacy stint (although that was extremely helpful). The big shift was in my mindset. I had to completely change the way I was mentally and emotionally relating to relationships.
I had to rewire myself to be attracted to emotionally available, kind partners.
I had to BRAINWASH myself into having confidence and self-respect.
I had to learn how to have boundaries and how to be interdependent.
I had to strip away the beliefs that I wasn’t worthy of and good enough for the kind of love that I really wanted.
And I had to plant some new beliefs systems in their place.
And guess what happened? I stopped being attracted to *bad boys* who were emotionally available. Rejection wasn’t as devastating because I no longer wanted to be with partners who didn’t want to be with me. I was able to engage in really successful (not because of longevity, but because they were *healthy*) short term and long term relationships.
Relationships continue to be something that I’m obsessed with, but not in the toxic-infatuated kind of way. I’m obsessed with them now because I truly believe that they are one of the biggest catalysts for growth and self-actualization that we have.
